The Governess in The Turn of the Screw -- Baylor Opera Theater

Kaitlyn Stavinoha is a Houston-based soprano currently involved with local companies like Houston Grand Opera, Opera in the Heights, Houston Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and Operativo. She is a graduate of Baylor University where she received her Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Oklahoma City University where she received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance.  

 

She has been an active member of the HGO chorus, under the direction of Richard Bado, performing multiple roles on the main stage as well as performing in community and educational outreach events through HGOco. In 2016, she had the pleasure to work with two new Houston based companies. With Operativo Houston, she sang Actèon in Charpentier's Acèon and she performed in the inaugural performance of EaDo Lyric Theatre singing Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites under the leadership of producer/director Ryan Frenk and conductor Gregory McDaniel. In the fall of 2015 she had the great opportunity to be the soprano in Houston Grand Opera’s Opera to Go! performing The Velveteen Rabbit to over 70 schools in Houston and the surrounding areas.

 

In the 2014/2015 season, Kaitlyn won the Houston District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and went on to compete in the Regionals in New Orleans. She also won Second Place in The San Antonio Tuesday Music Club Young Artists Competition and received Honorable Mention at The Young Texas Artist Music Competition in Conroe. 

 

 

During her time at Baylor, Kaitlyn won 2nd place in the Graduate Women’s division at NATS and had numerous performance opportunities. Notable roles include Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, The Governess in Britten's The Turn of the Screw and The Plaintiff in G&S's Trial By Jury. While in Waco, TX, she made her debut with the Waco Symphony Orchestra as a soloist in their Red, White and Blue concert and returned to sing Marie in a concert performance of The Daughter of the Regiment!

 

Prior to Baylor, Kaitlyn made her debut with the SOMA International Foundation as Annina in Verdi's La Traviata working with the renowned Lois Alba and Dr. Stephen Dubberly. During that time she also made the finals and won The Audience Choice Award at the 2013 Lois Alba Aria Competition. In 2015, Kaitlyn also went on to the finals of the Lois Alba Competition and won the Theo Pinson Award.

 

San Diego has been home during the summers of 2013 and 2014, where she was a young artist with Opera NEO singing Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) in 2013 and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) in 2014. Other training programs include Si Parla, Si Canta in Urbania, Italy (2011) and The Houston Grand Opera High School Voice Studio during her senior year of high school. In the Sacred Music scene, Kaitlyn has been the Soprano Soloist in Fauré's Requiem and Poulenc's Gloria with Austin Avenue UMC, and Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass with Baylor University.
